As a child I grew up in Chennai, in the southeast coast of India where the monsoon season brought thunderstorms and typhoons over the Bay of Bengal. Many nights I’ve stood by the window, listening to the radio issue weather warnings to fishermen, as winds howled and thunder crashed in the skies. Later in the dry summers, as I understood how rains were made and why we need them, I fell in love with the blustery and tantrum filled monsoon rains. Perhaps this is where I learnt how unfamiliar things frighten us only until we understand them.
You’re Safe with Me came from that fascination with thunderstorms, rivers and oceans and the desire to show young children that everything in nature is both magical yet purposeful.
