What inspired your creative process in writing or illustrating your book?
Oh, wow. I've always had a thing about walls, both literal and metaphorical ones.
Favourite character or moment from the book – and why?
I have a few from the story itself, but Katie's illustrations capture Ana's emotions so perfectly.
What themes or messages does your book raise?
So, on the surface, The Wall and the Wild has environmental themes, but it's also about perfectionism, control, and self-acceptance.
How would you describe your artistic or writing style in three words?
Playful, vibrant, heartfelt.
What aspect of the story did you most connect with, and how did it shape your illustrations?
Ana's quest for perfection. I've always struggled with that too.
Favourite illustration – and why?
I love all of Katie's illustrations, but I really love the one where Ana steps back to look at the wild garden.
